About KaosPilots
We are entering new times and new landscapes. Modern society is chaotic and needs people who are able to navigate in this chaos. KaosPilots belong to a new generation; they are curious and creative young people with the ability to lead, to start new businesses and to add value-thinking to society’s many agendas.
The KaosPilots is a school that attracts the creative outsider. KaosPilots demand much of themselves and life in general. They are entrepreneurial young adults with their hearts in the right place, individuals who want to make a positive difference in the world.
KPNL
History –the beginning
The KaosPilots stem from a project incubator, The Frontrunners in Århus, Denmark in the early nineties when a need emerged to develop, organize and manage projects within the socio-cultural and arts fields. The KaosPilots have now spread out and strive to become an ever modern and value-based education focusing on creativity, change, entrepreneurship and the development of society, business life, organisations and people. The KaosPilots mission is to be the best school for the world.
Learning by doing
One of the overall objectives of the education is to combine theory and practice, and the school is best described as a dynamic cultural system based on a fundamental and principal idea of what it takes to motivate its students to learn, to learn how to learn and to innovate.
KaosPilots Netherlands
Apart from the three great new schools in the Nordic backyard of the KaosPilots -Oslo (2005), Malmö (2006) and Stockholm (2008)- the KaosPilots Netherlands is the first real step towards internationalization. The school is the first one of its kind to be established outside the framework of the established and traditional higher educational system in the Netherlands. A group of committed and visionary founding KaosPartners in the Dutch corporate world support the establishment of KaosPilots Netherlands in a long term financial and collaborative relationship.
The Dutch school embraces the overall KP-vision of training tomorrow’s change agents and creative entrepreneurs in a global context, and to set new bold standards within the fields of social innovation, cultural diversity and sustainability.
…and liftoff!
The first team of pioneering pilots took off with the KaosPilots aircraft in September 2007. In the fall of 2008 another team entered the innovative atmosphere, soaring through the sky along with the existing staff and students.
Risk and Reality
To attract students of top motivation and with a high level of commitment to their own learning, the 3-year KaosPilot program is also based on an concept of student payment. 15 years of practice shows that one of the underlying qualities and values behind successful entrepreneurship is to be willing to take risk.
Taking risks by investing financially in ones own education is an extra factor that will allow students to grow and be trained in a maximum reality setting and to develop the sense of ownership that is always a decisive factor when entrepreneurial ventures are carried out in the ever changing context of reality outside the classroom.
To emphasize a reality-oriented learning environment the students will work with assignments and projects defined by real clients, reflecting real needs and challenges outside the school – along with ”risk taking”, ”real world” is a second of six qualities that form the value base of the KaosPilots and entrepreneurship.
Throughout the 3-year programme, the school, together with the students, will explore learning by earning projects as a means to support not only the school’s economy but also the financial investment of the individual student.
With the World as a Playground
The KaosPilots strive to be able to navigate in the turbulent chaos, not only in the safety of home, but wherever, whenever. Therefore an important part of the education is to temporally relocate, trying out new things and different cultures. So, for a period of three months, the students in their second year go as one team to work on projects abroad. This venture, called Outpost, can be in any country in any continent, it’s up to the pilots to set the destination!
Many students also leave their backyard for the World Internship, taking place in the 3rd year, where the Pilots do an internship at a company and organization.
